Repairs and Care

One of the most considerate things you can do as a consumer is to keep your clothes in circulation for as long as possible.

Repairing and caring for our clothing is a shared responsibility we encourage among our community, promoting longevity and mindful consumption.

CLEANING GUIDE

Moving on Stone clothes are handmade in Italy and Portugal, making each one unique. Slight variations in color, texture, and sizing may occur, and the appearance may change slightly when washed.

Each product requires special care, and by following the instructions provided, you can ensure that your Moving on Stone clothes will last a long time.

Washing Instructions

The washing instructions can be found on a white label inside our products. Generally, washing your clothes in tepid water (washing at lower temperatures whenever possible is better for your clothes and energy consumption) with a mild detergent (non-toxic, biodegradable types preferred) and line drying are the best ways to clean Moving on Stone® products. Using a dryer on a low-heat setting is also an option.
Fill your washing machine to the max to use less energy. This also means that the fabrics will protect each other during the spin cycle. Wash similar colours/products together. It is not necessary to use color catchers.

Dry Cleaning

Moving on Stone doesn’t make clothes that need to be dry cleaned. Our clothes are designed to be worn and washed with minimal effort. More importantly, the EPA estimates that 60–90% of the dry cleaners in Europe use perchloroethylene, or “perc,” to clean garments and textile products. This chemical solvent poses significant risks to people and the environment.

Fabric Softeners and Dryer Sheets

We do not recommend the use of fabric conditioners or softeners on our products. Although adding fabric softeners or dryer sheets to your washing process may increase softness, the improved feel is achieved by waxy agents being deposited on the surface of the fabric. This waxy residue on your garment can interfere with moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabric functions, hinder odor control, reduce spandex longevity, and worst of all, hinder DWR coating function.

Ironing

Moving on Stone garments do not require ironing. However, if you want your garments to be even smoother, you should first check the iron symbol on your garment's care label to make sure it is safe to iron.

Drying

Dry your clothes on the line whenever possible. Turn light or dark garments inside out so they don't fade. Hang shirts from the bottom and pants from the waistband so the clothespin marks are not as noticeable. Line drying saves energy and is better for the environment. For some garments, you will need to use a dryer to get the maximum performance out of your gear. Drying waterproof/breathable fabrics on a medium/warm setting helps renew the fabric's durable water repellent (DWR) finish, which prevents the outer fabric from becoming saturated in wet conditions.

Microfiber Pollution Prevention: Fiber Filters

Putting your synthetic clothing into a filter bag (such as a Guppyfriend bag), before washing by hand or machine, can significantly reduce the flow of microfibers into your drain. Another option is a permanent washing machine filter (which requires some plumbing expertise). For both options, make sure you clean out your filter bags after a few washes when you can visually see that fibers have collected. Wipe the fibers out with your finger and put them in your trash bin.
